Hi. I'm trying to find any information relating to John McGurk born 1850/51. I have a 1851 Scotland census,  where he is listed as being with parents John and Roseann and siblings John and Elizabeth. His place of birth is listed as Rutherglen. I am unable to find anything else, census, birth or death records. If anyone can help it would be appreciated. Many thanks

Have you exhausted the possibilities of www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, including the Roman Catholic parish registers?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Have you found his parents in 1861?

You don't give your connection/relationship?

Is it possible he died prior to 1861 census?

Yes, I've looked on scotlandspeople, without much success. His parents are at wardlawhill Rutherglen in 1861 census. Alexander, his brother born 1843 Thornliebank, is the family connection. There's a story that's been passed down that someone in the family ran away to Ireland to avoid prosecution. I am still trying to solve the mystery. As yet all the immediate decendants have been in all the Scotland census. Many thanks
