Industrial School, Glasgow
« on: Tuesday 07 March 17 07:58 GMT (UK) »
I visited the Mitchell Library recently and found interesting information regarding Poor House and Industrial School records 1891/1895.

I have a question - the last entry  states,  1895 - back to Industrial School - no mention of the name of School and leaves me wondering what happened to the 11 year old.

Did look up  Industrial school records for 1895 but he wasn't there.

ADD   Any information will be very much appreciated.

His name is Joseph FLEMING and the address on register records is 79 Govanhill Street, Govanhill, Glasgow. I don't have the relevent papers at the moment, the library are posting them to me.

I assume that is where here stayed with his Aunt Lillias Gillespie - she died 1893 aged 34 yrs. Just had a look at Lillias's death cert and gives her address as 2 Caspin ? Street, Glasgow.

Thank you so much for this 1891 census  :)

I knew Joseph lived with his Aunt (age 7) - after his parents died -  but didn't know his Aunts  occupation.

Looking forward to receiving the papers from the Mitchell Library. The only thing is, finding Joseph after 1895.

Mary age 14 above, Joseph's sister seems to have disappeared post 1891 she may have gone into service and then married ??

Since this I have discovered Joseph and his younger brother went to live with another Aunt Janet COWAN  at 2 Carfin Street, Govinhill, Glasgow around 1892. So, it would be possible they are on the 1901 census.

There is a chance Joseph died before 1901 or moved away - His brother Thomas Gillespie FLEMING  married in 1909 District of Gorbals, Glasgow  - his witness was Tomas COWAN his cousin.
