Elizabeth Salter > Mrs Weeks > Mrs Purnell
« on: Tuesday 07 March 17 09:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello people,

According to my dusty notes from two years ago.....

Eliza Weeks married James Purnell in 1866, Isle of Wight.
She was a 53 year old widow, he was a 71 year old widower.
(She was his third wife named Eliza)
(James Purnell born 1783, died 1868)

Tonight I tried to get some background on Eliza and found nothing.

My notes say she married William Weeks in 1826 and was originally Elizabeth Salter.
However I am no longer sure now that this is all correct since I can find no corroborating data.

>>>> Can I ask you to help me trace Mrs Eliza Purnell back through her life to her beginnings?

Be warned that she is the third Eliza Purnell and that her data is easily confused with data from James's preceding wives.

Thanks
David C

The 1866 marriage certificate - is Eliza's father named, and if so, who was he?

Family Search say that her father is James Salter, but there is no date for the marriage, nor is there an image available.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

ShaunJ,

very tempting to say that Mary Salter in 1851 is a relative.
She is 19 years older than Eliza Weeks.
If she was an Aunty or mother to Eliza, we would expect that to be listed as the relationship to head.
Salter is also a common name in this area (I think, from what I have seen).
So.... not sure.

If Eliza is a widow by 1851, can we find the death of Mr Weeks, of suitable age, prior to 1851?

53 in 1866 - therefore born about 1813ish, so would not have married in 1826?

Blimey!! I did not do the simple math to check age!

Red-facedly says thanks for pointing that out.

So... we need a new history for Mrs Elizabeth Weeks. Any takers?
