Until The Age of Marriage Act of 1929, girls could marry at 12 and boys at 14 with parental consent.

Good point, Shaun.

I just found records for Eliza Weeks (1851) and Eliza Purnell (1881) which give birth year = 1809.
Therefore she could have been 17 at marriage in 1826.

The 1851 & 1881 records give matching family members named Salter.
However, I see that son Frank Weeks was born in 1848.
That's quite a gap from 1826.

GRO death record for Eliza Purnell gives computed birth year 1812.

Aged 32 (unusually precise and unrounded) in 1841 which ties in with a birth in 1808/9.

All tying together quite nicely now.

>>>> Can someone view the actual 1851 census record for Frank Weeks please

Newport, Hampshire, England
Age   3
Occupation   School Boy
...(etc)...
Page Number   26
Registration Number   HO107
Piece/Folio   1663 / 59

This should be ~15 years old, not 3, to be consistent with 1841 census.

If so, this completes the picture of a woman (Eliza Salter) born 1809, married in 1826 to become Eliza Weeks. She had five children starting in 1827, was widowed by 1841 and living with what could be her younger brother (James) and her widowed mother (Mary). She marries again in 1866 to become Eliza Purnell. She is a widow again by 1881, and her youngest son from the first marriage (Frank Weeks) is still with her.

Frank's age on the 1851 census is very indistinct but he appears below Edwin 17 and Walter 11.

He's 12 on the 1861 census at Newchurch, Ryde IoW:

Eliza Weeks 50 monthly nurse, Brixton IoW
Emma Fawcett 30 daur dressmaker, Exeter, Devon
Frank Weeks 12 son Newport
Fanny Fawcett   9 granddaur Ryde
Edward Eyre   2 grandson Newport
William Rashley   18 lodger, groom, Shanklin

Hi,

I think these prove your Eliza/SALTER/WEEKS to James PURNELL marriage,

England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973

1866
Marriage Place:  Newchurch, Hampshire

Eliza WEEKS
(Eliza SALTER)
Age:  53
Father:  James SALTER

Spouse:  James PURNELL
Age:  71
Father:  George PURNELL

From IOWFHS,

1866
All Saints, Newchurch
James PURNELL
Eliza WEEKS, SALTER

There is this death,

Frank WEEKS    June Q 1842    Isle of Wight    8  162
Age:  5

IOWFHS
1842
Frank WEEKS
Age:  5 years
Newport

I can't see any other Frank that this could be other than the 5 years old Frank living with the SALTER/WEEKS family in 1841.

Regards,
Daisy

Good work, Daisy. Thanks.

It appears we are looking at two Franks, one who died in 1842 and another born in 1848.
I wonder who was the father for Frank #2?

I found this in Familysearch.
Any chance we are accidentally looking at the birth registration for this young lady?
