Wood Leader Occupation
« on: Tuesday 07 March 17 15:24 GMT (UK) »
In the 1894 White's Directory of Leeds, I have Spencer Archbell with the occupation of "Wood Leader" - see attachment.  I have looked in A Dictionary of Old Trades, Titles and Occupations but no entry for such an occupation.

1891 = Drayman
1901 = Cartman
1911 = Carter

I'm assuming that Wood Leader has something to do with this type of operation  :-\  Any thoughts, anyone  :)

It would appear that a "Wood Leader" (occupation) is the same as a "Wood Carter".

They used to lead the carts of horses carrying the wood. He'd literally lead the horses with a "lead" (rope / twine).

So the use of the term Wood Leader was changed to Wood Carter at some point.
