Mystery Grandchid in 1871
« on: Tuesday 07 March 17 19:05 GMT (UK) »
Ogilvie and Ann Taylor have a 2 year old grandchild living with them in the 1871 census in Montrose.
Jean T. Davidson (transcribed by ancestry as Jean T. Winson!)

I can find no other evidence of that she exists. I have tried Scotlands People, famlysearch as well as ancestry.

Help badly needed please.

Jean and Jane are interchangeable in Scotland plus it was common practice for illegitimate children to have their natural fathers surname.

I think that is the case here - my first thought was that the 'T' in her name was probably for Taylor and looked for a birth in that name.

Familysearch shows:

Jane Taylor b.9/2/1869 Montrose, dau. of Jane Ann Taylor.

Jane Ann is one of the daughters on the 1871.

She may be the Jane Ann Taylor in 1881 shown as inmate of Dorwards House of Refuge for the Destitute, Montrose aged 11.    There isn't a birth entry for a Jane Ann 1869/1870 so suspect this is her.

Just downloaded the birth record from Scotlands People. The mother is our Jane Ann, same address as the census
