Sarah H Walton (nee Gray) emigration to US about 1885-1900ish
« on: Tuesday 07 March 17 22:47 GMT (UK) »
I have just come across a possible emigration to the USA of a daughter and her family of one of my ancestors.

I don't have a sub to worldwide Anc..y  only the UK version, so I wonder if anyone can help, please?

Sarah H* Gray born1850, Norwich, Norfolk, UK appears to have married a James Walton in Marylebone, District, Middx (sep ¼ 1873).
(*2nd name could be either Houghton, mmn, or Hannah)

I have her in the 1881 census , aged 32, with her father (Elijah) & mother (Caroline) in Heigham, Norwich, Norfolk and her 7 year old daughter Gertrude Walton born about 1874 in Camberwell, Surrey.
I can't get any further forward because Anc..y suggests I look at the 1905 New York state  census, and/or 1910 US Federal Census which of course I am unable to do.

Is anyone able to help please?

Alan

Hi Erato & RJ137,

Thank you both.

With the info & connections you've listed I have been able to fill in a lot of blank spaces.

Much appreciated

In addition to the above, this appears to be Sarah H's obituary:

Hi Lisa,

Thany you very kindly for finding the obituary.

You may think I'm taking a liberty, but is there any chance you could find similar press notices for her husband;
James Walton Born abt 1849 died 24-5-1901 Manhattan also for the daughter;
Gertrude Braun ( nee Walton) died 3-12-1938 Manhattan.
I did try using the page you sent the link to but nothing came up.
No matter if you can't.

Thanks for thing of me.

I found a death notice for James on www.fultonhistory.com.  If you do a search for all of the words "james walton" 1901  "New york ny" (include the quotation marks as I have written them), the first two results are him.

Unfortunately, I've not been able to find anything else.  Thankfully, shellyesq was able to find James' article.

I will try again tomorrow night (I don't like to give in).   ;) ;D
