If you could find the marriage for Baker/Layton would that then have their parents on it?

That would then take me back even further!!!

If the marriage cert for a Baker/Layton marriage was available online then you would be able to view the details, otherwise it would be a case of purchasing the cert.

Still can't see a marriage  ???

This could be Frederick on the 1861 -

Thomas Southall   41
Emma Southall   33
Frederick Baker   1 1/2 b. Islington (no relationship to the head recorded)
Jane Sherrington   36

RG 9 Piece 192 Folio 65 Page 10, Clerkenwell

All these details are a bit like 'clutching at straws' however sometimes a vague reference can be of help  :)

Thank you for all your help  :)

I do have another question you may be able to help me with, regarding my grandfather on my mothers side, he was married before he married my nan.

Shall I put this in another new post? I am worried I have only just joined the site and do not want to spam it.

It's best to start a new topic, otherwise the Baker search could get overlooked.  We still need to track John down.  If you keep this thread just for John Baker's line it keeps things simple.
(when I started on Rootschat I had about six queries on the go - most of us did the same)
Please help me to help you by citing sources for information.

It's always best to start a new thread if your new query is not connected to your original post.

Hopefully we'll see if we have more luck with your next query.  :)

I will start a new one.

Thanks very much for that information and details of the certificate, I have just ordered it so it will give me some more information to go on.

Could be related
There's a birth reg fro a Francis Wallis Baker in Holborn district in Q3 1854 mmn Layton. Not too far away.
Looking for other possible sibling might flush out the parents.

If Frederick's mother was a widow when she married John Baker, the marriage record would be in her first husband's surname not Layton. But Layton would be recorded as mmn on registrations of Baker children
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

I have come to a bit of a dead end whilst researching my family tree and I wondered if anyone could help at all or point me in the right direction.

I have been looking to go back as far as I ca, but recently all I seem to be doing is going sideways, what I have on my father’s side is; All of these are in the London/Essex area.

John Baker ( ? - ? )

Frederick Baker – (1858 – 1903)
Married to Charlotte Knight

Harry A Baker - (1882 – 1934)
Married to Elizabeth Kemp

Harry AW Baker - (1906 – 1977)
Married to Madeline Tennison

Peter Baker – (1930 – 2002)
Married to Barbara Johnson

Any help would be great, thank you in advance.

Hi,

Do you have Frederick on any census giving his actual birthplace?

I note from Frederick's marriage cert that his father's occupation is a cattle drover, that occupation may help to find him.

Birth certificate or birth registration for Frederick will give his mothers maiden name to look for his parents marriage.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos
