What records are available for Wallertheim, Hessen?

My sister is helping someone with their genealogy.  His Neirstheimer family came from Wallertheim, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, in 1868. 

I don't know anything about Hessen research.  What records are there for Wallertheim and how can they be accessed?  Thanks.

Besides church records, are there other records for Hessen one should look at? 
Like census records, etc.

I think the Bürgermeister / registrars officer can't help in this case, because registrars offices didn't exist in 1868. You should look for the churchbooks, for this you need to know if they were of roman catholic or lutheran evangelic religion. Maybe the lutheran evangelic churchbooks are online on archion, but you need to register there. Census records don't exist in most parts of Germany.

I am not seeing Wallertheim listed, but I am excited to see some of the towns my ancestors came from listed.  Thanks again!
