Ada Annie Smith possibly born 1897
« on: Saturday 11 March 17 10:07 GMT (UK) »
Thanks to replies have now confirmed that Ada Annie (Anne) Mills died 16.Jun.1985 in Western Australia at age 92 so born circa 1893.
I have Ada Annie Smith, who emigrated to Australia where she married Oswald Thomas Preston Mills in Leederville, Western Australia in 1913. I have no details on her parents or siblings and would like to find them. I am wondering if she might be the Ada Annie Smith born in 1897 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and the same Ada Annie Smith who emigrated to Fremantle, Western Australia in 1909.  If this is the case what other family members would have made the journey with her. Would anyone be able to join the dots for me? Thanks in advance.

Hi Mills 1960,

In order to possibly match your Ada Annie SMITH to Ada Annie born 1897 Notts or to the Ada Annie who emigrated 1909:

* When abouts was your Ada Annie born?
* Her 1913 Marriage - name of father? Mother?
* Her death, do you know when where? name of parents on death record?
* Have you seen the ship manifest of the 1909 travelling Ada Annie?

Cheers

I don't think so as that one is still with her family in England in 1911  :)

There's an Ada Annie born Durham but she too is still in England.

I will see if I can work backwards by trying to confirm death date and age at death. From that I will have a better idea of birth date.

Just found her death:
http://www2.mcb.wa.gov.au/NameSearch/search.php

Ada Ann MILLS, age 92
Died 16 Jun 1985, Inglewood WA
Ashes Request: Family Grave at Guildford Cemetery
Anglican Section D, Grave: 460
Grant Number: G0002078

Seems her Ashes were interred at Oswald's Grave. His record shows he is interred Guildford Cemetery: Anglican Section D, Grave: 460

(and a photo of his headstone can be seen on his record via here):

So she was born about 1893.

If you can confirm it was 1909 and the date of her marriage for us that would help  :)

She would only then be on a census in England for 1901 so that narrows it down.

Was her husband native to Australia or did he emigrate too do you know?

There is an Oswald Thomas P Mills born England 1891.  And the P is looking good for Preston as in 1901 he is age 10 Oswald Mills grandson and the person listed underneath is Joseph Preston 91.

Passenger list for Oswald Mills London to Freemantle 12 Nov 1910 age 19 so I wonder if by chance he was travelling with Ada and they already knew each other.

No he seems to be on his own.  Ship name "Armadale"
