Help identying and dating regiment/war David Hutcheson

My grandfather had a son from his first marriage , it was rumoured he fought inWW2 for the Australians but I can't find any records. His name was David Hutcheson, born Glasgow 1917 . A relative has found this picture of him and I'm hoping someone can pick out the uniform ? Would love to solve the mystery of what happened to my half-uncle.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat...there's not much to go on really...I would say it's a 1940s photo..is there anything on the back that could help with dating?

There's nothing to suggest he's wearing anything of a military nature.

Shirts with shoulder straps were worn by civilians as well as military, so unfortunately the photo doesn't give any leads.

If ShaunJ has found your David Hutcheson emigrating in 1951 it is probable that David married and had two children born in Glasgow - so if a marriage can be traced it may give details.

My instinct is that as David was born in Glasgow, and if he was a carpenter in Glasgow in 1951, he would be more likely to have served in a Scottish regiment or specialist regiment such as the Royal Engineers.

Thanks for all replies. I don't have the original photo, but apparently it has a photographers name embossed on it and the word Jerusalem but no date.
ShaunJ I can try looking for marriage certificate , did the record of migration give the wife's name ? I'm new to research , if it's not cheeky, can I ask which site so I could call it up and view what you found?

The passenger list can be viewed on both Ancestry and FindMyPast. The wife's name was Violet. The children were aged 8 and 6 in January 1951.

So the dates of conception for the children would be c1942 and c1944.  This would suggest that , if David was in the forces, he was based in the UK.  I suggest it would be unlikely for David to visit Jerusalem as a civilian after the war (where the photo was taken) and it would be more likely that he was in the services in British controlled Palestine before the foundation of the State of Israel.

This information also suggests that David and Violet were married in or before 1942.
