There's a David Hutcheson, born Lanarkshire in 1917, coming up in Merchant Navy records (via FindMyPast).  I found this on familysearch.org and so don't have any additional detail.

Scotlandspeople has a David Ewing Hutcheson born 1916 Carmunnock Lanark(shire).

Also a marriage David Ewing Hutcheson / Violet Purves 1940 Shettleston  Lanark(shire).

David Ewing Hutcheson was a ship's carpenter on the M V Kaipaki arr New York on March 19 1945. Had been at sea 4.5 years.

I think I'm ruling out David as his dob is 1916 not 1917 and he was born in Carmunnock. My granda's other kids were all born in St Rollox, Glasgow and a David shows up there on Scotlands People b. 1917 , I know my granda lived in St Rollox/Townhead all his life. Hoping I'm making the right call here, shame as I wa following David Ewing's life quite well.  Will try and find the David who showed up on navy records .
