Help needed please, to find a Baptism for William Chandler.

William CHANDLER marries Charity Hayes, in Meare, in 1835.

On the following censuses  ( 1841 to 1881 ), he gives his birthplace as Wedmore, c 1813 to 1816.

Thank you.

Thank you, we have looked at this one.

We have a few issues with this one.

If he is born and baptised, in 1822, it makes him 13, when he marries.
A possibility, is he was Baptised a few years after his birth ...... OH has looked at the Parish Reg and there is no note on the entry specifying this.  He has also trawled through the entries for previous and following years with no luck ( so far ).

If his parents are James born Wedmore and Fanny ( nee Whitmarsh ) born Sherborne Dorset ( as census ), they married in 1820, in Dorset.
We are looking for a possible Baptism, in Dorset.

Hi,

Wonder if this is too late?

William Chandler
Baptism :   10 Jan 1822
Wedmore, Somerset, England
Father:   James Chandler
Mother:   Fanny Chandler

This marriage is on FreeREG and has the following extra info:

James Chandler's occupation is shown as 'Labourer' and his abode as 'Heath House'.

Although I think this baptism might be too soon as he would only have been 13 at marriage? I should add that it appears to be the only baptism for a William Chandler in Wedmore between 1800 & 1825.

William CHANDLER marries Charity Hayes, in Meare, in 1835.

This marriage is also on FreeREG as well, it took place on 1st Jan 1835 and William & Charity are shown as bachelor & spinster respectively. They are both shown as being of the parish of Meare.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

I was thinking late baptism. Does the parish register give birth dates or additional information for any of the other baptisms?

There is no additional information, as far as he could see.

Hi Jan, don't know to be honest, no other info shown on FreeREG, couldn't say as regards the original registers though.

To be fair having rechecked, there are only six Chandler baptisms showing within that time frame in Wedmore on FreeREG.

Baptism of Charity on FreeREG as follows:

Charity Hayes baptised on 2nd April 1815 Meare, St Mary to James & Mary Hayes. James a Labourer & abode given as Godney.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

thank you David.  We have this record.

Heath House, is a Hamlet, belonging to Wedmore.  About 2 miles SW of Wetmore.

Meare is a Parish, about 5 miles from Wedmore.

Godney is a Parish neighbouring Meare.  Some Godney BMDs were made in Meare and surrounding Parishes, before the church was built in the village.

A William Chandler, marries a Lucy Amesbury ( trans. Aywesbury ), in Compton Bishop, in 1854.

Looking at the Parish Record entry, he gives his father's name as James and he is born c 1823.

Following him on the census, he gives his birthplace, as Wedmore.
This could be William 1822 ?
