Charles Barney Inn Keeper King's Arms Stokenchurch
« on: Monday 13 March 17 17:31 GMT (UK) »
Hope somebody might be able to let me know his wife's maiden name, please? Charles died 1854, probate settled c.1865 with Ann, his wife, sole executrix. She appears to have run the King's Arms in 1861; she is on her own in 1871 and appears to have died 1875 as best I can work out. No children's baptismal records on Ancestry/FamilySearch and no marriage record either. Another couple of gaps could be filled if somebody knows her maiden name, date & place of marriage, please? Thanks in anticipation!

1851 is Stokenchurch Oxfordshire but you have posted on the Bucks board

You didn't give any info as to their ages or when their first child was born to help with a likely marriage date

1851 shows youngest child was 17 so marriage is pre-1837.  Charles was 45 and Ann 47

1841 shows eldest child aged 10 so marriage c1829-1831

I will ask the moderator to move this post to the Oxfordshire board

Death and probate entries agree with Censuses; Charles born c1806. There is another Barney family (Joseph) turning up in Stokenchurch later on, contemporary with Charles' son George. From this I would surmise they are all native to the area. How large was Stokenchurch in the mid C19th? How many churches? Where are their records, and do they have graveyards with monuments extant?

I understand that Stokenchurch births appear in GRO index & FreeBMD under Wycombe, hence my posting on Bucks forum. As for dates, perhaps I was remiss in being less specific. Of course I'm grateful for any response, the more so when despite my slothfulness, a result appears. Thank you.
