The date I have given 14 Feb. 1830 is the christening date of John as found on SP -- .His mother Isobel  Binning died pre 1840 as his father is remarried on the 1841 census.

The Family Search website and Ancestry have a Scottish births and baptisms database which gives John's birth date as 1 Feb 1830 and the baptism date of 14 Feb 1830.
