william Ribbans born about 1851 Ipswich
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 08:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I've recently come across possibly another member of my family; William Ribbans born 1850 Ipswich
consistently shown on 1881,91,1901 as an engine fitter married to an Elizabeth born about 1853 Lewisham, Kent shown on each census.

I'm having trouble in finding this William's birth, who his parents were and also where & when he married. I've looked on F/S, FreeReg, FreeBMD and Anc...y without any success.

Can anyone find him please?

Hi Gadget,

Thanks for that info. I do have on a limb a James Ribbans born 1830 Little Bealings but nothing else on him.
I suppose the next thing is to find James Ribbans marriage to Elizabeth and also  Charles to Sarah.

To make things harder I can't even find him (William) on the 1841, 51, 61 census returns.

I did try the GRO but nothing came up so presume the surname has been mistranscribed along the line.

Hi Maureen,

Thanks for that info.
Tried several times but eventually found the image so now trying to work backwards (surname listed as Ribbons) a common problem I've found.

Yes,it seems to be the James/Elizabeth couple who were the parents.
In 1881 James is listed as a Beer House Keeper and Pork Butcher. (Ipswich).

Mauureen,

I'm having trouble in finding the 1881 in Ipswich.
Can you give precise details of what you put in. James as a butcher appears to be the one.
