Is this the same person? Joseph Dale Knowles

Hi

I have been unable to tell if these two photos are of the same person. One is from the 1860s in Nelson, New Zealand and taken at the grooms marriage. Is its the same person the other image was taken much later and after he had 11 children with his wife

Any thoughts?

I think, that unless there is some undeniable feature about the person, then its almost impossible to say.

For example, my son in law found it difficult to believe that THESE TWO PHOTOS, were the same person almost half a century apart..... I, on the other hand, can guarantee that they are

I would say not.  Although the photo on the left isn't quite front on the eyes look closer together, ear more pixie like and eyes less hooded although appreciate the chap on the left is younger.

I wasn't actually referring to the photos in the opening post. If you read again what I wrote and click on the link in my post, all should be revealed.

Thank you for your responses. I noticed that the ears of the men were different but was hoping that it was just a bad angle. Ive found a couple more images online of the man on the right who has the same ears in each photo and neither image matches mine

The descendants of Joseph have said their image on the right is definitely Joseph but weren't sure about my image.
