John Martin/Marten (1792-1837) & Elizabeth Parker (1792-1839)
« on: Wednesday 15 March 17 07:30 GMT (UK) »
I've been unable to find where & when this couple married and hope someone can help, please? To the best of my knowledge John was born c.March, 1792 Radnage & Elizabeth 1792, Gt Marlow. Neither appears in 1841 census and although there is a death record for Elizabeth Martin, q3 1939, Wycombe 6 255 that "fits", the available GRO death record for John Martin, q3 1837 Wycombe, 6 253 appears to be for a John Martin born 1822! 7 of their children appear to have been baptised in West Wycombe between 1818 & 1832 so presumably they married c.1816. I'd appreciate any info regarding this couple some of whose children appear in 1841 census living with John's brother James and his wife Rebecca. Thanks in anticipation.

I can't find their marriage in West Wycombe but these are the burials which seem to fit in with the baptism dates you gave :

23 Feb 1837 John Martin aged 45 of Wheeler End

14 Jul 1839 Elizabeth Martin aged 47 of Lane End.

(Bucks FHS CD)
HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

This is where I get all hot & bothered - I have absolutely no idea why Elizabeth is neé Parker other than better folk than I have determined that "fact" - so I copied it. One has to start from somewhere and it would be welcome if any of the West Wycombe baptismal records for their (c.7) children indicated Elizabeth's maiden name perhaps by associating a likely marriage between John, son of Joseph & Tamar, and an Elizabeth. A bit of a tall order, perhaps, but I live in hope.

Other people's trees are not something I'd start from - you can easily be swayed by people who haven't done their research properly - or at all.

I can find no sign of a baptism for an Elizabeth Parker at the Great Marlow parish church in or near 1792. Of course, its possible her family were nonconformists.

The West Wycombe baptisms to John & Elizabeth don't give any clues as to mother's maiden name, I'm afraid:-

19 April 1818 William
26 Dec 1819 James
17 Mar 1822 John
22 Aug 1824 Mark
3 Dec 1826 Joseph
6 Sep 1829 Tamor (of Wheeler End)
25 Mar 1832 Maria (John is described as a labourer of Wheeler End).

Have you considered requesting a marriage name search from Bucks FHS? Its very reasonable and pretty quick.

with regard to the names given to John & Elizabeth's children, might I also suggest that you look into a baptism on Family Search for an Elizabeth Young 28 April 1793 d/o William and Maria at Radnage? it may be a complete red herring but it looks like a possibility.
