Thank you both for your offers.
I asked Woodhorn before 17th Feb but they didn't answer till earlier this week when I entered this post. Nor was it not a complete answer to my questions.
I need to find the length of time my great grandfather Walter Proudlock (b Fourlaws Ridsdale 1840, married Ann Mary Carlisle formerly Reed in Nov/ Dec 1871) lived in Morpeth in the 1870s and if possible, where. His son Walter was born and died on the same day, 2 June 1874 in New Phoenix Yard. Walter was an innkeeper - possibly, just guessing - The Phoenix. Walter had been in a pub, The Shakespeare I think, in N'castle until some time in 1873 and was paying rates on a beerhouse in Newcastle in 1877. He and Ann Mary split up some time in the '70s but he may have remained in his pub in Morpeth as well as running the beerhouse in N'castle. By 1881 census he was in Hewarth Gateshead where he stayed till his death.
Woodhorn has licensing applications for a few years up to 1874 (very lucky that the run goes to the year I need most) so that should tell me the name of his pub and if they have 1873 as well, when he applied there in 1873.
I asked if they have Poor Rate Rate Books for Morpeth for 1873 - 1880 but they did not reply about that but I would look at them back and after 1874 if they had them.
The do not have any useful directories.
I can't think of another source where I could narrow down his movements to 1873-1880 - so in answer to your question and so you know what i know already, that is what I need in Woodhorn.
thank you both again
