I don't research there myself so I don't have a readers card.

I wouldn't be there before Wednesday. I could go anytime but usually I'd still have to arrange around other things. This week is too busy though.

I hope you find more information out and please ask if there's anything else that I could help with.

Morpeth is only a few miles away from me aswell.

I’m afraid that I couldn’t find what you were looking for – not because he wasn’t there but because we couldn’t find the documents in question!

It’s many years since I last looked at licence applications so I asked at the desk which index they would be found in and no-one could locate them.  We tried Quarter Sessions, Local Authority, the on-line catalogue and even the old index card system to no avail.  They did eventually provide me with a list of Licence registers but only one was close in date – 1874 – 1899.  I looked at it in the hope that there would be a reference to the transfer of the licence from Walter Proudlock to someone else but it appeared to relate to places in the north and west of the county – nothing for Morpeth or anywhere else in the south east corner.  Thwarted again.  :-\

I really need the NRO reference number so they can locate it in the store rooms.

I will have another go next week but I was wondering whether you had a name of the person who sent you the email so I can go direct to them.  If you have could you please send me a pm with this information?

Christine

pm sent, (I hope). Isn't it easy to waste hours of one's life in archives?
