Willmore or Wilmore in Edworth and Campton
« on: Friday 17 March 17 18:51 GMT (UK) »
I would be most grateful to anyone who can provide information on Willmores or Wilmores (or possibly Wolmers or Wilmers) born in Edworth from 1550 to 1650.  And same names but born in Campton from 1600 to 1700.

Many thanks.

Henry

Welcome to Rootschat

A good place to start, particularly for Bedfordshire baptisms and marriages, is the IGI at www.familysearch.org where I can see half a dozen in Campton, and others in Edworth but outside your time scale.

If you need more information can you be specific about what you need.

Thanks David.  I am especially interested in possible descendants of Lawrence Wolmer and Katherine Emerson, married in Edworth on January 15, 1558, and possible descendants of John Willmore and Ann Millard, married in Campton on May 2, 1660.

Hi Henry
I've had a look at my copy of PR and there are no baptisms after 1660 for children. I can see the marriage..... probably  they moved to any village?  Campton covers Shefford as well.

Thanks Bex.  Are there any indications from the burial records of when John and Ann Willmore might have died?

Well had a look at disc again and there are some burials but not for John or Ann in the time scale. I have copied them down if you want the information. They seem to come from Shefford ... Gaberel & family he was a butcher and Benjamin & family from Chicksands he was a husbandman & Innholder.
So nothing on Campton disc. I'll have a look at some other local villages for you later

I believe the John who married Ann Millard on May 2 1660 in Campton is also the John who was baptized on May 22 1636 also in Campton.  His parents are listed as Gabriel and Eleanor.  So I definitely have interest in any information you have on Gabriel and family (as well as Benjamin and family).

There is a Gabriel born in 1605 in Dunstable.  I'm curious if he is the same one that you found.

Thanks.  Given the persistent differences in name spelling, Benjamin and Gabriel may not be related.

It does appear likely that the John who married Ann Mallard is Gabriel's son.  The puzzle is what happened to them.  The records do show some John Willmores in Clophill and Flitton with Silsoe a little bit further ahead in time.  But nothing to really tie them to John and Ann.
