This situation with the Diocese of York has come up on here recently.  Sadly you don't get the same kind of detail as we are used to from the Barrington years in the Diocese of Durham.

I can look at the PRs on Wednesday at Woodhorn if you wish

Christine

Hi Christine,

Thank you very much for your kind offer that would be great and much appreciated :)

Iíve not had the most successful day ever at Woodhorn today so itís good to be able to give you what you asked for, especially when we didnít expect it

The baptisms all took place in the Chapelry of St. Peter (which later became a church in its own right)
All the boys have the same parent detail Ė

Son of Thomas Reed, Miner native of this parish by his wife Mary (late Shields) native of this parish

John was shown as third son, James was fourth and Joseph was fifth so there appears to have been two earlier sons.

Hope this is useful

Christine

Hi Christine,

Many thanks for your research on my behalf it is really appreciated :)

The information is very useful and I seem to have too many previous sons so this will help me sort them out.

Sorry to hear it wasn't your most successful trip but if I can help with anything in Scotland please let me know.

Best wishes,

Carole

Hi all
I've been having trouble finding any Allendale records on Family Search and wondered whether you might be able to look up the following for me:
-John Dixon born 1861, Allendale.
-Elizabeth ? (1861), also born Allendale, married John Dixon in around 1877, and 3 of their children were born in Allendale: Thomas (1878), William (1880) and Mary Elizabeth (1881)
-William Henry Dixon (probably John's brother), born 1866, Allendale.

Appreciate any help!

Sorry I cant help with the lookup but can help with something else;

I looked at the 1881/1891 Census for the Family and all the Children after Mary Elizabeth have Mothers mn as NEVIN.
( I stand corrected William reg 1879 has same Mothers mn)

John/Elizabeths Marriage Reg was March 1879 Hexham, 10b 315

Also;
NEVIN, THOMAS , no Mothers name*
GRO Reference: 1877  D Quarter in HEXHAM  Volume 10B  Page 309

Another child;
DIXON, JOSEPH  MILBURN Mothers mn NEVIN*
GRO Reference: 1885  M Quarter in GATESHEAD  Volume 10A  Page 917

Familysearch has quite a few christenings for their Children Primitive Methodist, Haltwhistle, Northumberland,  all 1-3 years after their births eg;
GEORGE christened 20 June 1893 , birth 11 Oct 1890

Trish :)

Thanks so much, Trish - that's brilliant! Nevin is a completely new name to me. I see now that Thomas has it as a middle name too.

Yes there are a lot of baptism records for the family at the Primitive Methodist. I do query the birth date of George, though. It comes 5 months after his sister Jane's birth on 10/05/1890, (bap. 11/11/1890). George is supposedly born 11/10/1890 and baptised 20/06/1893. It seems unlikely that a baby born so prematurely would have survived. Jane died in infancy. I guess there must be a mis-transciption somewhere along the line.

14 children by the age of 41 - makes my eyes water. :o

I'll see if I can track down any more on John and Elizabeth's parents now.

thank you!
Kirsty

There is a Jane Nevin Marriage Reg FreeBMD 1861 from memory .
A Robert Milburn is on the same page.

On 1871 Census Jane Millburn (2 l's) is born c 1840 Allendale

So I noticed Milburn as one of the Dixon childrens second names and though there must be a connection?.

Robert/Jane have no children with them 1871 Census, so was Elizabeth her Daug and living elsewhere?

There is a illeg birth reg that fits;
NEVIN, ELIZABETH

Baptism 26 April 1863 Allendale Father Matthew Milburn and  Mother Mary Nevin. Showing as Elizabeth Milburn or Nevin - an indication of illegitimacy.

Baptised same day as Jane Milburn - parents recorded as Matthew and Jane Milburn.

Marriage Matthew Milburn and Mary Nevin Apr- June 1862 Hexham RD.

Elizabeth Nevin is recorded with grandparents in 1861 and 1871 census (mother Mary also present in 1861).

There is definitely a Milburn connection - a relative (living) further down the line also has it as a middle name.
