keyboard86 - the 1841 census entry for Geo. Parkin and Ann at Rockingham Street is indeed the correct census - however, you omitted a child between Saml. Johnson 13 (not 10) and Mary Johnston 12 i.e. Edmd. Johnson 10.   Why they've been listed as Johnson must surely be an error on the enumerators part but the fact there is an Edmd. aged 10 surely makes it the right census entry.

Thank you Annette.

If we allow for the enumerator's errors, this is indeed a match for the family stories and my uncle's research.

I looked at the image using my Ancestry.co.uk subscription.  It's a poor quality image.  Did you see a clear one elsewhere?

Hi Ernest

Having seen the details of the 1851 census I posted, together with the info on 1841 census and records from USA which both state that the wife of George Parker was Ann  do you not think that your Uncle/family overtime confused the name of the daughter with the wife?

A possible death for Ann Parker is on FreeBMD

March Q 1845 Ecclesall Bierlow. 22. 84

Also a death of a Mary Ann Parker December Q 1851 22 122

Ernest - I actually viewed the 1841 image on Find My Past.   Having just looked at it on Ancestry the latter is actually the clearest (odd, since FindMyPast have the poorer copy and yet have it transcribed correctly and Ancestry have Saml as Jane and Edmd. as Tom!!).

Ann Parkin's death looks to be the one b.1803 (per GRO Index), d.Sept.qtr.1850 Ecclesall Bierlow.

Hi Annette

Your are absolutely correct the death I posted was for a Parkin not PARKER.

Sorry it the "old age" excuse I am going to use for this.

Thanks

There is a George Parkin baptised 17th Feb 1799 at Sheffield. Father is George & mother is Hannah. Father's occupation is given as Silver Plater.

Hi,
I hope this reaches you. I have a letter written by George's son, Edmond, who i assume is your great grandfather. He was a silversmith as well.  Please contact me. Thanks, Steve in North Carolina USA
