Just to confuse matters, a possible birth reg for Ann Stone (found by Rosie on the last thread as a 9 yr old with William, Sarah and brother William in 1851) has mother's maiden name entered as BEECE.

Baptisms at St Philip's & St Jacob's, to summarise (with likely Clifton birth registrations):

William Stone, 17 Sep 1837 (likely match with Sep qtr 1837 birth reg, mmn COOK)
Ann Stone, 5 Jun 1842 (??birth reg Jun qtr 1842, mmn BEECE)
Sarah Stone, 1 Jun 1845 (birth reg Jun qtr 1845 mmn COOK - but she is not with the family in 1851).

Parents: William & Sarah.

The daughter Sarah may have died Mar qtr 1848 Clifton, aged 2.

If you don't already have it, I think you really need the 1837 birth certificate to identify the relevant parents with any confidence, before leapfrogging to their marriage.

William Stone, 17 Sep 1837 (likely match with Sep qtr 1837 birth reg, mm COOK)
Ann Stone, 5 Jun 1842 (??birth reg Jun qtr 1842, mmn BEECE)
Sarah Stone, 1 Jun 1845 (birth reg Jun qtr 1845 mmn COOK - but she is not with the family in 1851).

Is it 100% certain that the Sept registration is the right one? If Ann Stone is definitely a daughter then it does look as if the mother's maiden name may have been Beece? The fact that Sarah isn't with them in 1851 may mean she wasn't from the same family. Playing Devil's advocate here.

Indeed, it isn't certain that the Sep qtr 1837 registration corresponds with the child of William & Sarah, or indeed with the William Stone who is being sought (whose military records suggest a birth on 17.08.1836 rather than 1837 - if he was born then there wouldn't be a civil registration of course).  William & Sarah's son William is aged "4" in the 1841 census - consistent with a birth in Aug 1836 rather than Aug 1837. Census may be inaccurate (he's "13" in 1851).

Plenty of uncertainty - hence my urging the purchase of that birth cert (already advised on the previous thread) which might shed some light, one hopes.

The Stone's with mmn Beece are children of Samuel & Hannah  ;)
