2 streets/roads 1 address??

Hello, I have come across a 1911 census which has the address on as 19 Jackson Street, London Road, Chorlton upon medlock. Just wondered why there is 2 road names?

I think it's just being helpful to anyone trying to locate the property. Presumably Jackson Street was off London Road. No postcodes in those days.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Ahh I see. Yes was wondering g about post codes. Does anybody know when postcodes starting being used?

The first trial was announced in 1959, and the final (current) format was introduced in 1967. (From Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postcodes_in_the_United_Kingdom)

Postcodes are a development of the idea of postal districts, which according to that article were introduced in London as early as 1857/8, and subdivided numerically in 1917. A similar scheme was introduced in Glasgow in 1923. Simple numbered districts were introduced in Dublin in 1917, and some other large towns and cities in 1934. These districts were mostly carried over into the 1960s postcode format.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson
