Ontario death certs
« on: Monday 20 March 17 17:39 GMT (UK) »
I have always assumed that in order to bury someone a death cert had to be produced. I have two burials that I can not find a death cert for. Eliza Pickering buried 1 Jan 1922 Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim and Vera Sinclair buried buried 3 Nov 1938 also in Evergreen Cemetery. I have looked at both Ancestry and familysearch to no avail. I would assume that if the Archives had a record they would have shown up on either Ancestry or familysearch.

Is it at all possible that they did not die in Ontario, but elsewhere?  She was a Johnston who married a Pickering, but buried as a Sinclair?

Always the possibility I guess. I have never been able to find the death for her husband (Archibald Ernest Sinclair) either. I have always assumed that he died after 1940 and did not have a headstone.

I have a death in late 1917 that might not have been recorded even though the family was compliant in all other aspects.  I have the M-in-L death in August of that same year and can find that no problem.  Even flipping through pages well into 1918 I can't find it in the relevant county.  The person was buried with her M-in-L in a cemetery.  Perhaps things were less rigorous back then?

When I requested Vera's burial record I was hoping that she was buried with Archie but was surprised to find that she was buried with first husband Wesley G Pickering and family(total of 9) in plot. The first burial was in 1917 and the last in 2013, The real surprise was that the parents of Wesley were there. Wesley's mother was Eliza Pickering nee Steel who has no death certificate. A number of public trees show her as dying 22 Nov 1922 but according to info that I was given Eliza was buried 1 Jan 1922 which seems to be a strange day for a burial. Don't know what to think about that.

Eliza:

Vera's isn't online at familysearch as they only have deaths to 1937.  Vera died November 1, 1938. Buried November 3rd.
