John Henry Kedge - Kings Cross
« on: Tuesday 21 March 17 00:24 GMT (UK) »
I'd like to know if anyone can help me with this or give me some ideas on what to search next?
Here are the facts  that I have:

John Henry Kedge
Born 11 Sept 1874, in Kings Cross, according to 1939 census and marriage record.
Father, William Kedge, Commercial Traveller.
Married Annie Amelia Edwards 4 Feb 1894.
He is living in St Pancras working as an embosser in 1901, but is a patient at Claybury
Hospital in 1911.
He appears in the electoral roll up to 1939, but not from 1945.
I can't find a GRO record for his birth or any death record that would match his birth year.
He doesn't appear on any census records before 1901, and I haven't been able match William Kedge
to any probable records either.

Thanks for any help.

The Kedge family surname looks like Sledge in 1871: RG10/264/32/61.

The only child of William old enough to have a child in 1873/4 seems to have been Eliza Jane Kedge b 1853 St Luke.  She was with the family aged 18 in 1871 and went on to marry (as Elizabeth Jane Kedge) to Charles Powell in Bethnal Green in 1879.

There is a family tree suggesting that John Farnell died circa 1881

St Pancras Workhouse records show that John Hy Kedge was sent to Claybury Asylum in August 1908. This is definitely your man: born 1873, an embosser, wife Annie Amelia Kedge, 2 Chaston Street.

The Lunacy Patients Admission Register shows "Jno Hy Kedge" being admitted to Claybury in August 1908 and also records his death on 26 March 1917.

Who then is the man in the electoral rolls and in the 1939 register?
