I found an interesting John Evans and son of the same name, living in the Minera Parish in 1871 too.Father John is given as a Labourer. The only thing to put you off is  that  John Evans jnr is given as born in c 1861.

Hi wrjones,
I see from your post that you are researching the same surnames that I am of North Wales so you know of my frustration with the census and parish records. I did see that census which confused me that is one reason why I have asked for help. Many thanks for your input. Cheers Dingaling

A lot of Gadget's ancestors came from a lot of North Wales places so the records were needed to trace them   ;D

The 1871 one looks interesting, WR, but the family are all born Bryneglwys rather than Corwen. It might be worth tracing then back to 61 and 51 and forward to 1881. Father, John was b. 1834  and sister Ellen Jane b. 1864.

In my searches yesterday, I did find a John Evans, b.c. 1863 with a mother,Jane. It looked like he was illegitimate but I can't find the record at the moment.

Given that he gave his father's name as John, it could be that he gave his own name as 'father' when asked. My grandfather did the same at his marriage.

Dingaling ~ the problem we have with Corwen is that it was not only a large village and  parish but also a much larger registration district, including such parishes as Llangollen, Glynceiriog, etc. . I would think that your John would mean the village or parish rather than the RD, but there's no way of knowing. Is he consistent with birthplace on all the later censuses?
