Is it possible you could find anything else about Kate and her husband and any children they might have had?I had a look on FreeBMD but couldn't find any after 1911.

Thanks so much for the help you've given me on this.

I have don a quick check on GRO indexes but not found anything - there is a William Chambers born 1905 mmn Norton but this is in Tadcaster but I don't think he's theirs

EDITED - removed info. posted wrong person   :(

no unfortunately it not him.Alfreds father was called Alfred Lincoln Norton ,born c 1845 in Coningsby.

He was a Machineman/Agricultural labourer around the Wildmore fen/Thornton le fen area of Lincolnshire.

He died prematurely in 1886.

I cant find Alfred and Mahahah in 1881.

They married BTW in 1877.

If that is Kate and the correct marriage, there are army records for Charles Robert Chambers,Sherwood Foresters (1st Battalion): records of officers' service.

Details on the records give date of marriage: 20th August 1902, Newark to Kate Annie Norton.

Charles' date  and place of birth: 28th August 1878, Bingham, Nottinghamshire.

Was commissioned from the ranks 9th October 1914.

TrishaG - Apologies I may have posted information about the wrong the
Charles Robert Chambers

The info. I originally posted was for a Charles Robert Chambers who was
born 1879 in Grantham Lincolnshire
his fathers name Thomas (mother possibly Rebecca GARRARD) married 1861

Looking at the info. from sgf28 the Charles Robert Chambers that married Kate Annie Norton was
 born 1878 in Bingham Nottinghamshire

So I have edited my original post by removing the information as not to confuse matters :)

Hi,
the info about Alfred and Mahalah and her remarriage is correct.
I too couldn't find any children. The only likely looking one was a Charles Chambers born in Newark in 1903.Can't prove it though.
Slightly confused(it's been a long day-lol)-do you mean that the info about the will is correct? If it is that's very interesting.Unlike any of my relatives on that side at that time they moved completely away from their birth place.I'm presuming it's to do with the army.
I wonder where he lived in 1901.I wonder this because perhaps they didn't live far from her mother in Eldon Street Newark.
Thanks for the brilliant info
Trisha

Hi TrishaG

I've now found and looked at the Army Record that sfg28 refered to and I’m know wondering
if the info. I originally posted and removed may indeed be the correct Charles Chambers - here's some of the info. taken from his Army record

2nd Lieu. Charles Robert Chambers
His Army records say educated Grantham
Mentioned in Gazette 1914
England  1896-1898 & 1907-1910
Malta 1898-1899
South Africa 1899 – 1900
India 1910 – 1914
Wounded twice  Vlakfortein then at Moedvil.

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/28932/page/8042
9th October 1914 London Gazette
Officers to be Second Lieutenants dated 10/10/1914
The Sherwood Foresters (Nottingham & Derbyshire Regt.)
Colour-Serjeant Charles Chambers

Medals
QSA clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannasberg Diamond Hill 1901
DCM , MC, 1914 Star, General Service Medal, Allie’s Victory Medal

So have added the link that I removed here so you can take a look and see what you think
– says he died in Boston 1965
http://www.granthammatters.co.uk/chambers-charles-soldier-mentioned-in-dispatches/

Sep 1965 BOSTON   3B   20
Charles R CHAMBERS died age 86
The district BOSTON is in the county of Lincolnshire

the only thing that's doesn't appear to match up is his dob

I can only find a birth entry for a

Charles Robert Chambers
March qtr 1879 Grantham
GRO Indexes show mmn GARROTT

possible marriage for his parents 1861 Lincoln
Thomas Chambers to Rebecca GARRARD

I still have the censuses record details for this Charles with father Thomas if you require them

Hi,
that definitely looks like him.I'ld be very grateful for the extra info ,thanks. He appears to have been an extraordinary man,I wonder what he got the DCM and MC for?In amongst all this was there an obit for Kate at all,it might give any extra info about her past and give a clue as to why I've never heard of her before and if they had any children.
Thank you so much for all your help in this it's very much appreciated.
Trisha  :) :) :)
