I am looking for Ferdinandus family
« on: Wednesday 22 March 17 05:52 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Ferdinandus family. I am grandchild of Johannes Ferdinandus and Carl (karel) Ferdinandus. I am living in Indonesia.

My grandfather was married with my grandmother (sundanese) in west java indonesia. When he was a baby he was taken care of a woman names Onoh (He taught that Onoh was her real mother until Onoh was sick and Onoh told him that she was not his real mom and Onoh passed away in the same time).

My grandfather has a sibling, his name is Karel Ferdinandus, they was live seperately until they grown up and finally met.

my grandfather and Karel Ferdinandus grown up without knowing their parents.

What information that I got is my greatgrandfather names is J.E Ferdinandus.

I am searched his name on the internet and I found man names Johannes Evert Ferdinandus. He joined 1st and 2nd war in 1942. He probably went to indonesia at that time (I still confused about that).

Ferdinandus surname originally come from 3 areas: Delft (Holland), Zaandam (Holland) and Haruku (mollucan Indonesia)

My grandparents probably from Haruku, but from his apperance he is very white and blonde and looks like foreigner

I am very happy if you know something :)

Hi Octavianti and a warm welcome to Rootschat

can you give us some dates please - for instance
Karel Elisa Fernandus b 1888 - married Whilhelmina Gusta Mien Morette (born 1900 ) - in Ngawi on 10th January 1917 ...so he married on his 29th Birthday

Karel was born 10th January 1888 in Ambiona
died 23rd July 1974 aged 86 in Jakarta

I have to find out where Ngawi and Ambiona are first
back later
 :)
ADDED - OK Ambiona is an island in Indonesia now named AMBON
NGAWI is in East Java, Indonesia .
so do you think this may be your Karel - or at least related to you ?

The death of the Johannes Evert Ferdinandus b.19/7/1883 was indeed 24/7/1963 but was in Ambridge, Beaver, Pennsylvania, USA (have just viewed death certificate).

He emigrated to US in 1913 arriving April with his parents and siblings.

The 1930 Census shows he was indeed born in Holland (Netherlands) but that both of his parents were born in East India.

If this is the man you seek then as he had a wife and children in Pennsylvania where they lived would suggest that perhaps he and your great grandmother were never actually married and that after the wars he returned home to his family in Pennsylvania.   This could explain why your grandfather was brought up by someone else if his mother wasn't able to keep him for whatever reason.   Maybe a similar situation for his brother Karel (or was he brought up by his mother)?

.....

I wonder if the reference to East India was actually East Indies.  The Dutch were the colonial power in the East Indies until it was invaded in 1942 during WWII.
