Hello,
I'm looking for a missing relative who I can't find on the 1870 census.
His name is Marshall Salton Cox, sometimes written as Cocks. He was born around 1840 in Whitby and he was a jet ornament worker.
In 1861 he married an Isabell.
I've got him on the census in Whitby ever time from 41 to 1911, but I just can't find him in the 1870s.
He appears to have lived in Whitby all of his life and given his profession in the jet industry I think it's unlikely that he would have moved.
I believe that at one point he and his wife had at least one son, because on the 1881 census he has a married daughter in law living with him (Mary E, 18 years of age) and a ten month old grandson. I can find no mention of what his son's name was. On the 1911 census he and his wife say they have no living children, so I'm assuming that son died at some point before then.
I've tried all my usual tricks on both Ancestry and Family search to turn up the 1870s census but with no luck.
