It is a strong contender and it still needs to be 'triangulated' to be sure. I am thinking this is it but still need that extra piece of evidence. Thanks for your ongoing help. Dee

Yes and well found! This was a dreadful tragedy for the family and storied down through the family. My Gt GMother grew an abundance of violets in her garden as a remembrance. This newspaper cutting was a pointer for me to the Rifle Brigade.

Possibly a post war enlistment by the way the description reads ...cab driver now [1919] serving in the Rifle Brigade.  Hence still serving post 1920, that would produce no on line records and the advice given about later records given by Rosie would stand.

The RSM now disappears out of the picture for me.

Excellent sleuthing Rosie

Not sure re a post war enlistment as he was, previous to the Rifle Brigade, already serving in the Buffs and I have a single photograph of him in uniform. I know he worked with horses inside and outside of the Army. The cab driving would have been a horse drawn cab.

The post by Newburychap yesterday at 1818 in another thread is worth referring to here as a record for a Rifle Brigade man ex East Kents is proving elusive:
