St Vincents Orphanage Glasnevin
« on: Wednesday 22 March 17 21:29 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if there are records of the boys from this orphanage?  I am trying to find out about my ancestor Ernest Macklin who died on 13th June 1926 with St Vincents as his address aged 16.  I cannot trace the death of either of his parents James and Bridget (they are all in the 1911 census) so am wondering what happened to them all. Ernest was my grandfathers half brother. Many thanks

Many thanks - but I had already looked at that.  Ages don't seem to fit - James was born about 1855 according to both 1901 and 1911 census in Dublin. Mystery!

OK... don't know what was on Census or that you had already looked at these!

I had a similar experience recently i found two boys in Vincent De Paul Home in Dublin in 1901 so i too looked for their parents deaths and could'nt find any before 1901. I then searched the 1911 census no sign either so i had to think outside the box as they say.

see the topic give you something to think about

In 1911 the Rev Brother George Frisby was Superior
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Glasnevin/St__Vincent_De_Paul_Orphanage__Prospect_Road/9244/

he died 1927 at St Vincents
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1927/04976/4356002.pdf

so we are dealing with the Christian brothers who have archives
i had dealings with them myself re Artane Industrial School and found them very helpful,i think brother John Burke is who i dealt with you can phone or email at the link below

they prefer that you write to them.

Did you notice on Ernest's birth record that his father's address was given as Ballynoe, Tallow, Co. Carlow?
LINK to birth record #90, last row
