The Rocavan/Racavan McCullough family appeared in mid 1800s visitation lists for Buckna Presbyterian church and had at least five or six children.

The same church lists a Martha McCullough of Racavan going to Scotland in 1898 and an M McCullough of Loughconnelly emigrating to New Zealand in November 1911.

Interesting, scotmum. The Martha McCULLOUGH who emigrated in March 1911 was William and Margaret's daughter Martha - we have her shipping document.

William and Margaret's son William was in Coatbridge, Scotland in 1901. He married there in 1903.

I would be very surprised if the William and Martha in Racavan in mid 1800s weren't your William's parents. Buckna church baptism records do exist, albeit not online.

Thank you, scotmum. We are in contact with another McCullough descendant, who had a researcher go through the Buckna church records, looking for the Robinson family ( a Robinson from Ballymena married Sarah McCullough in New Zealand) - the researcher came across a baptism of a William McCullough, son of William, and Ann Campbell; born Dec 1848, baptised Jan 1849.

It is possible Martha's surname was 'Black'.

A Nancy McCullough made a pension application. The partial details for checking being:

Another potential daughter of William and Martha was a Barbara McCullough who married a John Black in 1865. Here she is in 1901: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Shilvodan/Creavery/916531/

Whilst obviously your William may be the one of the birth to an Ann Campbell mother, at moment I am not seeing that couple in Rocavan. I suppose it is always possible that William lost his first wife and remarried. Buckna baptism records usually listed a townland. Do you know what was recorded?

Meanwhile, you at least have a few more options now for further research/checking, even if only to rule out certain possibilities.

Thank you for your help, scotmum. The information I posted about Ann Campbell is all we had. I thought this birth was probably too early.

In addition to the 1898 entry for a Martha McCullough going to Scotland, I have just noticed an 1891 entry for a Martha McCullough, Racavan, going to Govan.
