Hangings at Lincoln Castle
« on: Thursday 23 March 17 10:47 GMT (UK) »
Good Morning,

A distant ancestor, Henry Carey, was convicted of murder in 1859 and was duly hung at Lincoln Castle on the 5th August 1859. His body was buried the following day within the confines of the Castle Walls. His grave is shown to be in the area known as Lucy Tower and (I believe) that there will be a marker stone. Is anyone aware of such a marker stone and if so, does anyone have a photograph of it or could take a photo and e-mail it to me.

Many thanks for any help available.

According to Wiki

Quote
In the castle grounds are the graves of those executed here for various crimes. They have simple markers featuring only the initials of the condemned and the date of death

Why don't you contact the office at the castle, explain your connection and ask whether the marker is still there?

Hi,
A picture  of the graves and description of  where he is buried in the picture,. The person claims he is a relative - He can be found on many sites if you want to get in contact with him
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01jrx/

He is apparently buried to the right of the far two stones on the left .
I don't know if that means that there is no marker, or if he means that third one in from the midde left - that little one that is about visable on the grass, which is a fair distance away from the far two on the far left. My own guess is that there is no marker that survives for him, or he'd say something like - The marker that is third in from the far two on the left - The one on the grass.

There also seems a very big gap from these  far two  on the left (on the concrete)  to the next one that is on the grass, which makes me think that there are a couple of graves without markers in that big gap.
As suggested by Groom, contacting the castle trust would confirm if there is a marker for him or not.
 Hope that helps
Kind Regards:)
