Frederick Gordon JP 1848 - 1905 was honoured with a ward named after him at this hospital. Does anyone have any more on Frederick's life and his appointment as JP?

You have posted this on the Yorkshire (West Riding) Board rather than the Durham Board.

Does this mean that the person you are interested in hailed from Yorkshire?

Also the address in 1901 ties in with the marriage of Frederick's daughter Florence Gordon to Rev Henry Kenneth Warrand - Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette 27 April 1900

Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette 28 December 1893 -

New Magistrates for the County

We understand that the Lord Chancellor has appointed the following Sunderland gentlemen magistrates of Durham County -

Frederick Gordon, 9 Esplanade (address ties in with 1891 census for Frederick and family)

In 1891 Frederick is recorded as being a ship owner.

If you have access to newspapers there a numerous references to Frederick Gordon.

Frederick's children were born with mother's maiden name Hobson. This would appear to be the marriage of Frederick -

q2 1871, Sunderland
Vol 10a Page 788

On the same page is Mary Hobson.
