Gibsons in the Applegarth area
« on: Friday 24 March 17 00:33 GMT (UK) »
Looking for Gibsons in the Applegarth area of Dumfriesshire in the 18th century. They were likely farmers. Hit a wall after finding my 3X Great Grandfather James and wife Helen Little who came to Canada in 1815.

Looking at immigration records in 1815  James is listed as born about 1775 (with wife Helen Little)

Scotlands Peope free search has the bapt of a James Gibson 1 Nov 1774 in the parish of  Applegarth and Sibbaldbie which may be worth looking at

Added - Family Search also includes a transcription of the record but the father's/parent's? name is just listed as Gibson  :-\  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYWX-TR2
Checked the image on Scotlands People and no parents name is listed. His birth place is listed as Blind hill bush

Thank you, James was the last relative I've been able to find quite a lot about, both before and after he came to Canada. Now trying to find his father, but with only 'Gibson' listed it's difficult. Wondering if there are any Gibsons still in the area, hoping to travel there at some point. Thanks again for the info, especially the map of Blind Hill Bush!

James Gibson's Parents were Peter Gibson (born around 1750) and Maria ?  That is as far back as I can go.  If you have any more information please share...
