Leicester road name 1912
« on: Friday 24 March 17 09:09 GMT (UK) »
This is an extract from a marriage certificate, 1912, in Leicester, and I would appreciate any help in identifying the name of the road.

It looks, to me, like it begins with the letter I. I have searched Wright's 1911 Directory and there are only two Roads noted, Infirmary Road and Ireton Road. The word looks too short to be Infirmary, and doesn't have a 'y' in it, and although it appears to be about the correct length for Ireton, it doesn't appear to have a 't' in it.

What do others think please?

I am sure there are more than two with starting with 'I'  will check my brain as I am a Leicester lady :)

Showing such a small piece of the writing - doesnt give a comparison with other letters written by the same 'hand'

so a larger bit - :) with more writing, if poss would be good

I am probably way way off, looking at it I see the word Linton? Could this be possible at all. (I only say it begins with an L as I write my L's that way)

Sorry if I am way off

Here is a larger sample and I think that we can discount 'L' by looking at Leicester at the top.

It is definitely a Road and there were only two, as I said. I'm fairly certain that, if it is an 'I', it is Ireton Road, the trouble is that I'm not certain that it is an 'I'.

Hi,

Have you tried looking for the bride in 1911 for address?

What are the couples names?

Yes, I have both individuals in 1891/1901/1911, and names are Thomas Alfred Weston and May Parker.

I have looked for 16 Ireton Road in 1911 census and cannot find it; the census seems to stop at number 14 and jump to 42. The house was built in 1909 so should have been occupied then.

Hello Carol,

I'm sure that you are right as Quorn Road is just around the corner from Willowbrook Road, much, much closer than Ireton Road.

Now that you have said it I think that it is obvious.

Thank you, very very much.

George
