McCormick family from St Helens
« on: Friday 24 March 17 10:43 GMT (UK) »
Hoping that someone more experienced than me can help. I am trying to discover what happened to a relative Catherine Mccormick or McCormack born in 1881 in St Helens. I have found her on 1881 census with her parents Thomas and Julia McCormack and her siblings James, Thomas and Julia. living at Copperas Street in St Helens. Then the trial goes cold. No marriage or death and nothing on census. Can anyone help? Much appreciated
Juliet

Hi Juliet

Can you give us more information taken from the census?  How old each family member was on the 1881 census and which spelling of the name they were recorded under.  Do you know what happened to the rest of the family going forward?

Have you checked out this death for a Catherine McCormack 1889 age 5

Prescot Lancashire although the age  is out by a few years ...I'm assuming the father died 1885 and mother 1899 ?

Can you share what information you have on the parent's deaths?

I see that Julia married James McManus on 12 December 1909 at St Mary's Lowe House (RC).

There is a John McCormick who marries Mary Harris on 1 September 1891 at Holy Cross (RC).  Could be sibling John?

Can see a Catherine McCormick who marries on 17 July 1920 to a Peter Harrison but it isn't RC.  She would be nearly 40 then.

There is a Catherine McCormack who marries John Costello on 13 May 1911 at St Helen's Lowe House.  Could it be she?

That John Costello is buried at St Helens Borough Cemetery in 1943 aged 62.  There is a Catherine Costello buried 27 Feb 1954 but she is aged 80.  Not quite the right age for your Catherine.

Hi Kit
Julia died in 1899 and thomas died 1891. You are correct Julia did marry james mcmanus in 1909 at Lowe House.
i haven't seen john marriage record before i will  look into that. I did think that record might have been Catherine marrying but thought she would be a bit old for the times. But i will check again. Thank you for looking
