Assistance Scottish, Ayr, records
« on: Saturday 25 March 17 04:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have recently discovered some Scottish relatives, which is pretty exciting but has opened up a whole lot of new doors.

My connection is William Wilson Reid born March 1824 and died in South Australia in 1867 in Ayrshire.

Through William I discovered his mother - Flora Muir Campbell Loudoun born about 1786 in Loudoun, Kilmarnock, Ayr.
Flora married John Reid (1784-1865)

I was intrigued by Flora's name. Upon research I found another Flora Muir Campbell born 1780.

I have endeavoured to establish if there is any connection and if so what? Any insight to this name would be appreciated.

Regards
Chapman (South Australia)
Wood (South Australia)
Reid (South Australia and Newmilnes, Ayrshire)
Winterbottom (Liverpool)
Walker (Liverpool)

Hi there.

Flora Muir Campbell 1780-1840 is showing as the 6th Countess of Loundon. Lots of info on her and her line if you google.

Likely your Flora Muir Campbell Loudon was named after her, in honour of the Countess?  Not uncommon to name children after noted people in the community, where there was no family connection.

Monica  :)

DixieFamily,

Have you located your William W Wilson and his parents on the Scottish Censuses?
I believe they are living in the Parish of Loudoun in 1851 and in Kilmarnock in 1841.

Looby :)

Thank you Looby yes I did find them on the census. They then appear arriving in South Australia in 1855.
