information on marriages for st buryan

I notice on a couple of marriages when it comes to filling out the register for rank or profession of the father they have down what job he done even if he died a good couple of years ago and don't add deceased is this common practice?

When I married in 1988 the registrar insisted on being told my father's occupation even though he had died in 1971.  So it is not unusual.
