Opera singer, Death on Shillington Hill, Boxing Day 1935
« on: Saturday 25 March 17 20:26 GMT (UK) »
Dear friends,

The death of Vincent Print aged 63 of no fixed abode on Shillington Hill on Boxing Day 1935 was recorded in in the Stage Newspaper on 2nd Feb 1936. It is believed he was an opera singer/actor. It was reported he was walking from Oxford to Wallingford. He had been in Bristol South Mead hospital in August 1935 with heart problems. He had a half brother living in Birmingham - no name given. He was believed married to Enriqueta CRICHTON also an opera singer

I am seeking any information on above in particular burial place.

Thank you so much,
Peter

It looks as though he was born Vincent Emmanuel Print in Burton on Trent, Dec qtr 1872 to Alfred Print (a musician/violin teacher) and Jessie nee Jack, though she seems to have married as Jessie Gray in 1866, Burton on Trent.

Alfred subsequently remarried to Susan Knight (Mar qtr 1885 Birmingham) and Beatrice Ellen Stone (Jun qtr 1903 Birmingham).

Vincent married Mary Cecilia McManus (19) in Manchester on 2 Feb 1903.  Both were opera singers.

Alfred was with his family in Birmingham by 1881, and in 1887 aged 15 he was convicted there of his second offence, namely breaking and entering a schooloom and theft of money, and sent to reform school.

He briefly served in the 18th Hussars, 1892-3.

By 1917 he was an actor residing in New Jersey, and enlisted with the British Expeditionary Force.

Jessie's death aged 38 appears to have been registered in the surname Isaacson (rather than Print) in Birmingham, Mar qtr 1884.

For some reason, the enumerator has the family (Alfred Hy 42 and Susan 26, plus Jessie 15, Louis 3, Edith 2 and a baby girl 3mo) recorded as Jackson in 1891. RG12/2372/132/23.  It may be that the household schedule (which does not survive) said Isaacson.

They are Isaacson in 1901 - Susan still alive, but Alfred's next wife Beatrice Stone (19) already in the household as a domestic servant. RG13/2830/6/3.

The free 1911 index suggests they are back to Print by then.

Thank you so much avm228 for going to such trouble for me and providing such valuable information.

If you are able to give me the sources for Vincent's conviction, time in Hussars, presence in New Jersy and joining the BEF I would be most grateful.

Incidently it seems that Enriqueta Crichton and Vincent Print had a son John Vincent Print perhaps born circa 1908 onwards but I can't find this event recorded or the marriage to Enriqueta - did this all happen in New Jersey? Any advice most welcome.

Thank you so much.
Peter
