HELP WITH FINDING A ROAD IN HULME, MANCHESTER, 1952

Hello everybody, I having some difficulty in finding an 2 old addresses in Hulme, Manchester. Now I know that the old Hulme was flattened and new roads were built etc... but I cannot find these 2 particular roads when I look on the old maps I cannot find them. The first address was: 7 City Place, Hulme. This was my Nana's address and I've 2 different documents  that have this address on, 1 being a marriage certificate and the 2nd being handwritten on the back of her birth certificate, It is definitely City Place, not road, but all I can find is a City road?

The 2nd address is 3 Asdon street M15, this is the address that looks like its been typed using a typewriter its written twice on my father's birth certificate from 1962 but once again this address cannot be found on any old maps I've looked at.

If anybody could shed any light on this it would be great.

From my experience with old maps there are two possibilities for City Place.

Firstly, could it be the name of a building rather than a street? Blocks of flats or apartments are sometimes given the name '... Place'. Building names won't necessarily be shown on a map.

Secondly, if City Place was a small street or cul-de-sac then there might not have been enough room on the map to show the street name. The street itself might be shown, just not named on the map.

Have you tried directories like Kelly's Directory? These often have lists of residents sorted by street name. Side roads and junctions may then be included in the list of residents with an entry like "Here is Downing Street". So even if not marked on a map it is possible to work out where a particular street was located based on the surrounding network of streets and addresses.

Hi could be a different City Place, Hulme, but in 1901 at 7, City Place, South Manchester, Chorlton was a Patrick Diviney 39 b Ireland and family, checking 1911 City Place was indeed Hulme.

PS could be close to where Stretford Road and Chorlton Road meet?

On the 1901 census it is listed between White Street and Carlisle Street

White Street and Carlisle Street are in square 1C between Upper Moss Lane and Upper Jackson Street.

Round the corner from White Street and Carlisle Street is ANSON Street. Could the Registrar have misheard the name?

So it seems city place definitely did exist. But as for Asdon street?  My father's birth certificate is dated Jan 1962 and it says Asdon street manchester 15.

Do you think it's possible that it was misheard? Did that happen ?
