Samuel Hirst, or Hurst
« on: Saturday 25 March 17 21:41 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the birth records of Samuel Hirst who according to the 1871 and subsequent censuses was  born in 1849 in Greasbrough, Rotherham. Search of all birth record sites for 1849 +/- 5 years and Greasbrough Parish records via Rotherham Library have drawn a blank.
I have a copy of his marriage certificate dated June 1870 (Registry Office) which gives his residence as Greasbrough and his father's name as Henry (surname possibly Hurst) but I can find no trace of Samuel on earlier censuses. There is a Henry born in Greasbrough in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses, at different addresses in Brightside Bierlow, Sheffield, with family of a similar age to Samuel, including a Harry, which was the name of one of Samuel's sons and grandsons.
Any information would be gratefully received.
