Thomas Arthur Robinson. Which RFA regiment 'was he in?
« on: Sunday 26 March 17 15:14 BST (UK) »
I've managed to find my grandfather in the RFA attestations under misnamed Thomas H Robinson.
He enlisted in Jan 1915 and stayed in until Jan 1927.
Original service number 61901 then 1032599 after the renumbering.
I know he served in the Balkans 1915 and France 1916-1919
He ended up in Ireland to marry my Gran at the end of 1919 but what regiment was he in?.
In medal rolls I find
Medal.                Roll
Victory.               RFA / 193B
British.                  Ditto
15 Star.               RFA / 5 / A B

Theatre of war first served in.   (2B) Balkans

Can anyone identify which RFA brigade he may have been in?.

As he was still serving after 1920 his records will still be at the MOD. You can obtain them. Cost £30 I believe.

You need to be mindful that the RFA was under almost continuous re-organisation during the war.
Brigades were broken up & re-numbered & Batteries sent to other Brigades.
A typical example: 1 Bde.
Went to France with the Division in December 1914 and moved with it to Salonika in late 1915.
– 11 Battery joined from 15 Brigade on 9 February 1915. One section of 11 Battery left next day for 20 Brigade.
– 133 Battery left for 129 Brigade on 25 July 1916.
– B Battery from 129 Brigade joined on the same day and was renamed as D (Howitzer) Battery.
– 98 Battery was broken up on 28 December 1916, the two sections joining 11 and 132 Batteries respectively. 132 Battery was then renamed as a new 98 Battery.

The brigade thus ended the war with 11, 98 and D (How) Batteries.

With you knowing a lot it seems about the RFA, any idea which brigade / battery was based in Dundalk in 1919

There were a number of Batteries in Ireland in 1919. As most men were now back in civvy life the RFA as like the rest of the army were going through another re-organisation. This meant Brigades being disbanded or broken up & men being posted elsewhere, so having a list won't help pinpointing which Battery he was in. Only his service record will tell you that.
If he married in Dundalk it won't necessarily follow he was stationed there.
