Phillip Paul Kelly
« on: Monday 27 March 17 20:20 BST (UK) »
Born in Kent in June 1906, KIA as Captain, Durham Light Infantry in Burma on 18 Mar 1943.

Where can I find more information on him other than his family?

His war service history would be interesting.

All service records for personnel serving after 1920 are still with the MOD.

To order a copy (cost £30) see:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/overview

They are NOT online anywhere!

As he died in action, you will not need his death certificate.

Hi,

Here's his CGWC entry: http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2086609/KELLY,%20PHILIP%20PAUL

Gives service number as 50242 & he served in 2nd battalion, Durham Light Infantry at the time of his death. Buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar (Burma). It also states that he was mentioned in despatches.

Hope this helps, apologies if you already have this.

Kind regards

I had the cemetery and the fact he was a chartered accountant and appears on their roll of honour in London. I didn't know he was mentioned in dispatches.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Commissioned into the Honourable Artillery Company (the infantry battalion) in 1931, transferred into the DLI in April 1940.

The HAC have some papers of his (listed here - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=philip+paul+kelly), held by the HAC https://www.hac.org.uk/HAC/media/Company-Documents/Archives/WWII-Researchers-Guide-draft-latest_1.pdf

Being an officer he should be well recorded in the battalion war diaries at the National Archives in London:

WO 166/4219 2 Durham Light Infantry 1940 June - 1941 Dec.

WO 166/8662 2 Durham Light Infantry 1942 Jan.- Apr.
WO 167/728 2 Durham Light Infantry 1939 Sept.-1940 June
WO 172/859 2 Durham Light Infantry 1942 May - Dec.
WO 172/2507 2 Durham Light Infantry 1943 Jan.- Dec.

I have a copy of this battalions diary whilst they were in France and he's not listed with the battalion then so must have joined this battalion prior to them deploying to the Far East.
