William Brock (x3) Devon
« on: Monday 27 March 17 23:22 BST (UK) »
I'm starting to look into my paternal grandmother's roots and am not finding a huge amount of information other than the census results.

Dorothy Ellen Brock was born in 1900 to William Edward Brock b1865 (unknown date of death) and Mary Jane Harvey (b1862 and possibly died in the 1940s).

On her father's side there was a grandfather, also a William Brock b1826 and he died in the West Indies in 1879. There were allegedly Jewish roots in the family and there is a question whether this changed when he married Emma Cleave (b1829 d1916). He was a black smith.

A great grandfather, another William Brock b1801.

I don't seem to have any other information other than the census result for 1841 onwards.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can make.

Matt

How do you know William's father was also William and that he died in the WI in 1879?  What is the source of that info?

Do you have William E on the 1871 census showing his mothers name?  When did his parents marry and what was his mothers maiden name?

What was his fathers occupation?

William E Brock may have birth date of 1866 in 1901 census, but shows on a tree on ancestry, and looks to be in other censuses as 1863/1862 Devonport.

There is a death for a William E Brock age 58 in 1921, Devonport, which could be him.

Added:
Yes, died 27 August 1921, general labourer, administration to Mary Jane Brock, widow.

The only William Brock marriage to an Emma was

Marriages September qtr 1861
William Brock        Stoke D    5b   523
Emma Cleave        Stoke D    5b   523

Which does not tie up with the mmn on the 1862 birth
