Thomas Power Family
« on: Tuesday 28 March 17 05:00 BST (UK) »
G'Day to All
I am looking for Thomas and Anna Power [nee Tepperd/Jepperd] maybe Moryata probably pre 1800
Their daughter Ellen was b 1818 in County Clare left Dublin on the Duchess of Northumberland 1835
to Sydney Australia she changed her name to Anna [ after her mother ] why ??.
She married in 1843 to Charles Fairman and lived in Bega , New South Wales Australia she died 1870
buried in old Bega cemetery [ which is now under the Bega High School ] so she has a very large headstone .
I suppose students would not want to kept late after school .
Best Regards from OZ

Can you confirm maybe Moryata. Where did this information come from?
There is a Thomas Power in the townlands of Curragh-Querin and Cloncarran in the parish of Moyarta Co Clare Tithe Applotment (tax) book dated Nov 17 1827.
Today this townland would be called Querrin.

www.clarelibrary.ie has a vast collection of records including a List of Freeholders including Landlords & Tenants 1821 which lists a Thomas Power in Querin Moyarta in 1818.
www.registers.nli.ie has records Baptisms & Marriages Roman Catholic for Parish of Kilrush but may not be early enough for your family - Baptisms 1827 to 1881 Marriages 1829 to 1881.
www.irishgenealogy.ie for Civil Records (starting 1864)for Clare.  www, nationalarchives.ie 1901 Census has a Thomas Power & Family in Querin Clare possible descendant from your family they are the only Power family in this location.  This Thomas Power died in 1910 he was a farmer & shoemaker wife Margaret- which ties in with the 1901 census entry :)
