Joseph Harrison, born 1899 in Cullercoats
« on: Wednesday 29 March 17 11:57 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Sorry to ask for help again but I'm stuck again.

I'm trying to find out about 65046 Pte Joseph Harrison, 12/13 Northumberland Fusiliers, he's buried in our local cemetery and Harrison is my wife's maiden name. I'd hate to think of a possible relative being so close to home but lying unknown to the family.

I know he previously served as 36783 with the 8th Bn East Yorkshire Regiment and also know he had a silver war badge number B/301899.

He joined 23 May 1917 (according to his medal card) and was discharged 11 Sep 1919 as unfit for service (according to the SWB record) and has been buried in a CWCG grave having died 9 Dec 1920.

He is on the CWGC website and is also listed on the Tynemouth WW1 Commemoration Project's database.

I can find him on the 1911 census living with his mother, Mary Ann and his brother and sister which says he was born around 1899 in Cullercoats and I believe his father was also called Joseph (born 1868 in Cullercoats and died 1909), but I can't get any further back than the 1901 census to try and find a link to our family.

Can anyone help find any more information about him or suggest places to look to find out what happened to him?

Thanks a lot,

Michael

Just to add to this I have found out that he was a prisoner of war, captured on the 16th of April 1918.

The POW record confirms his DOB is 14th Dec 1899 and someone called MA Harrison had been asking about him, presumably that confirms his mam's name.
