Burdish/Geraghty marriage Islandeady
« on: Wednesday 29 March 17 16:30 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I am in need of help with my Mayo ancestors.

My 3rd Great Grandfather Peter Geraghty married my 3rd Great Grandmother Bridget Burdish on the 22 Jan 1854 in the village of Islandeady in Co Mayo.

I'm not sure of the church they married in as I found this marriage on a Irish website and for the life of me cannot find the details anywhere.
I know I have the right couple as the first two children they had were born in Mayo but the rest were born in Chester and it states the mothers maiden name.

They left Mayo to come to Chester between 1858 and 1861 as one child was born in Mayo and the other in Chester.

Now I am hoping that someone may be able to help me locate either the birth of either Peter or Bridget or perhaps the parents etc.

I don't know why but I know I have a record of the marriage somewhere but I cannot understand why I don't have at least the fathers names recorded.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Danny

It doesn't give their fathers names on the Marriage Transcription, but the witnesses are James Geraghty & Harry Walsh.

Thank you Ellenmai :)

Was the church St Patricks by chance?

It doesn't state the church just Parish Islandeady, Alternate Parish name Glenisland, Diocese Tuam.
By the was the typed transcription states Bridget's surname is Bowdish but when you look at the original register it looks more like Burdish.
The only Bridget Burdish Baptism I can find around that area is 18th January 1835 Mayo, Parents Tom Burdish & Bridget O'Brien, sponsors Barbara Smith & Patrick Flanagan.
